J-Rock Fridays Vol. 93

March 22, 2013

In volume 93 of J-Rock Fridays, we have serial killers, crossdressers, a hair salon for children, wind instruments, big meat and more!

uminote- “Words Kill People (Cotodama the Killer)”

Cotodama may be a ruthless killer when he has his Casshern mask on, but he’s just a teary eyed father when his baby girl confronts him. I knew uminote could make an epic video if they had a budget!

The SALOVERS- “Yuka ni wa Kimi no Cardigan”

Vinyl records, rock posters, ramen. Just your average hipster’s college dorm room taken over by The SALOVERS. Pick your cardigans off the floor, they’re clean enough to wear to English Lit.

Her Name In Blood- “We Refuse”

HNIB’s new singer looks a lot like Andrew W.K. when he’s wearing that dirty white shirt. He didn’t come to party but I think Andrew would be proud.

The Gelpins- 「あの日のラブレター」

The Gelpins are a group of cute girls (one of whom may be a crossdresser…) who sing songs about love letters 60s pop style. What a great decade to pay tribute to!

HeavensDust- “Annihilation”

HeavensDust is a modern day metal band that utilizes traditional Japanese instruments such as the koto. Heavy, yet keyed in to the sounds of the past.

Central 2nd Sick- “FinalFantasy”

The computer sounds of Central 2nd Sick sound a lot like a video game, although I’ve never played Final Fantasy so I can’t compare. I’m sure there’s not that many blood curdling screams in the game, though!

Sunset Bus- “Try Hard”

When facing tough times, you’ve got to try hard! Positive punk rock anthem from the sunny trio pining for California.

kindan no tasuketsu- 「午後の冒険者」

After releasing three albums last year, I was half expecting this to be the lead single off their fourth. Unfortunately not, but one of the better quiet songs from their second. A peaceful afternoon adventure with nothing but the smells of nature and gurgling streams.

Clutcho-“Billy Billy”

Clutcho is the latest J-Rock band to go anime with “Billy Billy” being the opening to Battle Spirits: Sword Eyes this spring. Until that OP is ready, Clutcho filled the real PV with things boys like, chiefly boobs and sizzlin’ meat.

Donatello- “Tokyo Tower”

Radical! Is it lame that the first thing I think of when I hear the name “Donatello” is the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles? This Donatello is a little too mellow for the turtles to rock out to but very pretty vocals indeed!

Goodbye holiday- “deco”

Do you remember your first haircut? When Goodbye holiday is running a hair salon for toddlers, you know it’s going to be chu chu chu cute. If that adorable girl trying to pluck a guitar doesn’t melt your heart I don’t know what will!
