Mono- The Flames Beyond the Cold Mountain

March 21, 2008

Good Friday.  The Friday before Easter.  The day Jesus died on the cross.  As I was raised Catholic, I celebrate this day every year.  One song that always gets me in the mood is Mono’s “The Flames Beyond the Cold Mountain.” Whether it be the haunting intro that sounds exactly like the music played on Good Friday services or the utter breakdown at the end, its hard not to classify this song as a spiritual journey.  Close your eyes and be transported to another world.

Updates, etc.

March 16, 2008

The last day of Spring break I realize that I haven’t accomplished much. It’s ok though I didn’t expect that I would. This morning I noticed that I haven’t added any new songs to the box player since last November. I decided to upload two songs with a theme, chick singers. I’ve posted about midori before, you’ll either love them or hate them. Very loud screaming vocals over jazz piano. Mass of the Fermenting Dregs is a little calmer, shoegaze band similar to Luminous Orange.

parms

March 14, 2008

Another band rises from the ashes…

Parms is the new project from Satoshi, vocalist of DRUM:KAN.  Four demos have been added to their myspace.  I’m liking what I’m hearing so far although it doesn’t sound that much different from his previous band.  DRUM:KAN broke up last September.

Asian Kung-Fu Generation

March 6, 2008

Asian Kung-Fu Generation’s new album World World World is a keeper.  It contains the two singles, “After Dark” from Bleach and “Aru Machi No Gunjo”from Tekkon Kinkreet.  The single for “Korogaru Iwa, Kimi ni Asa ga Furu” was released last month and surprisingly hasn’t been picked up for an anime theme…yet.  My favorite track on the album however is “Night Diving” which includes duel vocals with Goto and guitarist Kita.  I’ve been gay for Kita’s vocals since “Uso no Wonderland,” hopefully he’ll get to sing some more tracks in the future.
