Travel through space and time with the calm, dreamy sounds of Mono. Much like recent box office sensation Gravity, “Dream Odyssey” follows the solo adventures of an astronaut adrift in space. As the camera zooms out, you can see shooting stars, meteorite explosions and the death and rebirth of planets. Not the most scientifically accurate video of our solar system, but relaxing nonetheless.
“Dream Odyssey” is the shortest track off Mono’s 2012 albumFor My Parents at eight minutes long, which is coincidentally the time it takes light to travel from the Sun to Earth. Catch Mono on tour in North America this week at the following dates:
“Action Comic Punk Band” Peelander-Z have proven themselves to be kings of the the concept album the past couple of years with a children’s album and the space themed Space Vacation under their belt. On September 10, they’ll be releasing their tribute to 80s hair metal, Metalander-Z via Chicken Ranch Records. Recorded with era-appropriate guitar gear, Peelander-Z took inspiration from classic albums from the likes of AC/DC, Def Leppard, Van Halen, ZZ Top and Iron Maiden.
“Ride on the Shooting Star” is the lead single off of Metalander-Z, which they decribe as an “uplifting, coming-of-age, get-the-girl” song. You can download it for free on SoundCloud or with a remix of their “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” cover on Amazon.
Topshelf Records announced that they will be releasing toe’s discography on vinyl this fall. The Book About My Idle Plot On a Vague Anxiety and a box set including all of the records have already sold out but the preorder for Songs, Ideas We Forgot is still live as well as last year’s release of The Future Is Now. Shugo Tokumaru will be touring America the next two weeks, starting tonight in NYC. Tonight’s show will be supported by Mirah, OneOne (Satomi from Deerhoof and Saya from Tenniscoats) and Perrin Cloutier (Beirut). Tara Jane O’Neil will join Tokumaru on all dates for the west coast leg.
When The End announced they’d be releasing Crossfaith’s Zion EP in America last year, I was disappointed to find out it was a digital only release. They’re making up for it now with a CD version on March 19. The physical release was made in conjunction with Crossfaith’s current US tour with Enter Shikari and will only be available at their merch table or online. Temporary Residence will release Mono’s newest album For My Parents in North America on September 4 (Japan release is August 22). The 5-track album is about traveling the world and giving your parents a hug and includes support from the The Wordless Music Orchestra. Hard rockers FACT will be spending the rest of the year and next touring the world in support of their latest albumBurundanga. This July and August, FACT will be touring America with bands like I Set My Friends On Fire and The Color Morale. UK and Europe tour dates for 2013 are not available at this time.

Envy will release their fifth album Recitation on September 22 in Japan and Europe. Temporary Residence will release the album on October 12 in America. Pre-orders for the US release will go up on September 1 on Temporary Residence’s website in CD and 2xLP format. Myspace Records have released Polysics’ latest album Absolute Polysics today, January 12, on CD with no prior warning. You can buy that at Amazon or Interpunk. They will also be on tour in America at the end of the month through February. This will be the band’s last tour with keyboardist Kayo.
