Announcement: 2009 US Release Calender

September 24, 2009

On this blog, I like to talk about what Japanese albums are getting a US release.  So, I’d like to introduce a page I’ve been working on since the beginning of this year, the 2009 US Release Calender. It’s been live all this time, but considering it has only gotten 39 views so far, I have to assume no one knows it exists.  It’s a very simple list of what came out this year, followed by a link to where to buy it and their myspace if applicable.  I only include albums that were released on CD or vinyl.  MP3 downloads are too numerous and really take no effort to release.  I like physical media.  It gives me a sense of ownership that MP3s will never, ever have.

What I’ve bought this year (just 2009 releases):

VinylHush and Transparence 10″ by Asobi Seksu and Hymn to the Immortal Wind by Mono

CD: self titled albums by FACT and parms, P-POP HIGH SCHOOL by Peelander-Z, and Utada’s second English album This Is The One

DVD: A Knot Of by Dir en grey

I also have 9dw’s self titled LP.  It came moments ago, that’s why it’s not in the picture.  There’s also a couple other things I have on order.  Right now, albums I’m most looking forward to later this year are Armonica Hewa by OOIOO, Rewolf by Asobi Seksu, and Dir en grey’s music video collection.  I also have to applaud Maru Music for getting their releases on Hot Topic shelves.  I was able to buy Versailles’ debut album from there a few months ago.

I’m constantly updating this page, I added three releases yesterday alone, so be sure to bookmark it.  Also, be on the lookout for a This Month In J-Rock announcement next week.

Happy New Year!

January 2, 2009

Due to problems with my internet router, I still haven’t been able to finish This Month In J-Rock: November 2008.  But I got it all fixed today so it should be done early next week.  I’m also preparing This Year In J-Rock: 2008, my top 10 albums  and top 3 EP’s of 2008.  For a taste, check out my RYM: Best of 2008 list or the This Month In J-Rock archives.

Here’s hoping 2009 is another great year for J-Rock!

January 14, 2008

Hope you enjoyed the extra week of Jrock Christmas tunes. Now that Spring semester has officially started, I’ll now have access to internet that doesn’t freeze up on me after every word I type.

I wasn’t aware Nick Jr. promoted such great Japanese rock bands!

It’s a J-rock Christmas 2007

December 24, 2007

I wish you a merry Christmas!  Last night, I went ahead and uploaded three Christmas inspired J-rock songs to my Box.net media player.  They will stay up until the second week of January then I’ll switch back to the old songs I had up.  If you have any other J-rock Christmas songs to share, please post them in the replies, I would love to hear them!

-The Cherry Coke$- “Auld Lang Syne”

-Ellegarden- “Santa Claus”

-L’arc~en~ciel- “Hurry Xmas”

edit: the picture is Koyuki from BECK: Mongolian Chop Squad, one of my favorite anime.  I drew the Santa Claus hat on him myself using MS Paint.  I know, it’s pretty bad ^_^

Happy Thanksgiving, all

November 24, 2007

A few days late but better than never.  I hope that everyone had a blessed holiday of stuffing their faces full of turkey.  Last week, this blog hit 20,000 views, a milestone perhaps.  Thanks to all the people who visit this site everyday.  You’d be happy to know that I do intend on posting a mixtape here within the next few weeks, depends on how many papers I need to hand in by the end of the semester.  In the meantime, here’s a humorous video I found the other day.  Backstreet Boys vs. SMAP.  It’s from some kind of music show from Japan, I don’t care to figure out which.  The look on Nick Carter’s face when one of the SMAP guys rubs up on him is priceless.

slow news week

October 31, 2007

As the title suggests, don’t expect a lot of news this week.  It’s not that I don’t have any to post, I’m just crushed with massive amounts of homework again.  In fact I have more recommendations to post than ever.  You’ve probably noticed my sporadic posting; I’ll have upwards of 5 posts one day and nothing for the next week or weeks.  So sit tight I guess.  I know I have some other emails to answer but I have to finish up these papers for class first.

In the meantime, Happy Halloween!

where’d you go I miss you so

September 12, 2007

Sorry I haven’t been posting much lately.  Still trying to figure out how to effectively get schoolwork done in-between my hell of a commute and work.  Both my internet browsers at home are having major problems as well and I don’t always have time to check out the library at school.  On the other hand I just noticed this is my 100 post!  I didn’t think I’d last this long.  I don’t really have anything else to share so new song in the BOX player, “World Has Collided” by The Lovesong.  I’ll try to post some actual news tomorrow morning.

An epic feat deserves an epic video.  Here’s a clip of the outro to eksperimentoj’s “Broken Infinity.”

Update: Music profiles

August 13, 2007

It’s been awhile since I’ve updated the Music Profiles page so today I went in and added 14 new links. New links are denoted by the word *new* to the right of each band. Next on the list is updating the blogroll with new links as well as adding new songs to our Box player.  Some feedback would be greatly appreciated!
