Hyogen (表現) is Mayu Gonto (vocals, accordion), Kimiya Sato (vocals, violin), Kuya Sonoda (bass) and Baku Furukawa (vocals, guitar) from Tokyo. Kuya and their former guitarist formed this folk band in 2005 and their first work was the soundtrack of the dance performance “脈拍 (Myaku-Haku, Pulse Beat)” for Yukina Sakai. Their self-titled album was released in 2009 and their drummer quit the band soon after. When Mayu joined on accordion, hyogen decided to perform as an acoustic band.

dinner

Dinner is a five piece instrumental/post-rock band from Yamagata. They formed in 2002 as a three piece with vocals. The current lineup of Shigeyuki Oba (guitar), Yasufumi Harada (guitar), Jun Ogata (bass), Natsumi Tada (drums) and Miku Kobayashi (piano) was set in 2007. Their first two albums Rock Disco and and…hearing things were released in 2008 and 2009 by fantome records. Their third album B5 No Naka was released in 2011 by Nomadic Records. Yes Asia has the first and third courses.

Royal Cabaret

Royal Cabaret is an alternative rock band led by vocalist Miyu and backed by Ryosuke (guitar), Haruhiko (bass) and Shintaro (drums). The band formed in 2006 in Tokyo. Through their performance they hope to promote an atmosphere reminiscent of a dusky underground cabaret and dress in appropriate fetish and Gothic attire. They toured France in 2009 and describe their performance as “Le monde fin-de-siecle” (the world at the end of the century). Their first album Waltz was released in June 2011 and is available at Amazon and CD Japan.

The Minx and Misanthrope

The Minx and Misanthrope is an alternative rock band from Osaka. The band was formed in 2003 by Hiroki Okajima (vocals, guitar) and Masami Taguchi (drums) while they were still in high school.  They toured as a duo for many years and released their first single HAL in 2006. Okajima founded Moco Records in 2007 and the band released a number of singles and EPs including their latest Restart from Under the Bridge through the label. Syougo Oota officially joined the band as their bassist in 2011.

The China Wife Motors

The China Wife Motors is an Osaka rock n’ roll trio founded in 2001. Tsunehiko Kajita (vocals, guitar), Masaki Noda (bass) and Toyoaki Nagai (drums) released their first album Hello, Motor City in 2007. Over the next few years they opened for a bunch of overseas punk bands in Japan and toured the USA twice, once with hellcat records band Left Alone who they released a split 7″ with. Last year The China Wife Motors released their second album In the Motor City.

Tour the motor city at CD Japan and Interpunk.

GOLD&SAINT is the electronic rock duo of Yo Asai (vocals, synth) and Tommy (vocals, key). They formed in Tokyo in 2008 and performs as a full band and as a techno unit. Their first album I Am You Are Me was released earlier this year in cooperation with sound mastering engineer Yoshiaki Kondoh who has worked with Iggy Pop and Kahimi Karie. Thatta is a five-piece dance rock band from Tokyo. They formed in 2006 and their current lineup is Hiroki Oda (vocals, synth), Hiroshi Morishima (guitar, synth), Toshitsugu Tanaka (guitar, synth), Yujiro Chikayama (bass) and Shun-Yeah!! Nakaso (drums). Pulling in influences from the UK and American 90s alternative rock, thatta is known for their energetic live performances and trademark three synthesizers on stage.

Viva la Majority! is their first mini-album released in 2011. They have also been included in several compilations, including this year’s Free Throw Comp #2.  Their latest release is a split EP Party Talk Affair with The Keys and Christopher Allan Diadora.

After Tonight is a pop punk band from Tokyo that formed in 2010. Their current lineup is Ken (vocals), Paul (bass), John (guitar), Ryota (guitar) and Manabu (drums). Influenced by bands like New Found Glory and The Starting Line, After Tonight aims to bring pop punk back to Japan and their English is pretty decent too. Their first EP The Lenses was released in November 2011 from the indie label Ice Grill$ and they will release a 7″ record in early 2013.

LIFESHOP is an alternative/grunge rock band from Tokyo. They formed in 2007 and played as a trio with Jun (vocals, guitar), ko-hei (bass) and a support drummer for a while. They upgraded to a foursome when Mew (drums) from Paranoid Box and ismi (guitar) joined earlier this year. Their first mini-album Forever Song For Last was released in 2010 and their newest People Always Praying was released in October. Pick it up at CD Japan.

THE NO EAR is a hardcore punk band founded in Yamanashi in 2002 while drinking beer. They are Tetsuya Sagawa (vocals), Kentaro Wada (guitar),  Yoshihiro Nakayama (guitar), Yoshiyuki Akiyama (bass) and Tetsuya Amemiya (drums). Their first album Eardrum Explosion Sentence was released in 2006 and re-released in 2009. Their second album 10 Years Revolution will be released in December. Celebrate their 10 year anniversary at CD Japan.
