J-Rock Fridays Vol. 27
August 20, 2010Friday! Watch your J-Rock videos. Then go see Scott Pilgrim vs. The World!
Isobe Masafumi- “Do we know?”
Isobe Masafumi, formerly of Husking Bee and Mars Eurythmics, has decided to go solo and got Toru Hidaka of Beat Crusaders to tag along and produce his first single. It’s a fun pop song with plenty of screeching synths. The single release, which has a very Beat Crusaders-esque cover, also features peeps from Asian Kung-Fu Generation, Asparagus, and Cubismo Grafico Five.
Hotel Mexico- “It’s Twinkle”
Hotel Mexico released their debut album earlier this week and what I heard of it is awesome. This is the earlier, recorded-in-our-bedroom version of “Its Twinkle.” It’s a little fuzzier than what wound up on the album but it’s essentially the same eargasmic track. The updated, apostrophe-less version of the song can be heard here.
Nature Living- “Shadow of Proof”
I sort of talked about this song for myspace band of the week the other day but it’s massive enough to post again. I don’t really get this video. Why is an old man handing out carrots? Why aren’t they eating them?
Sonic Attacks Blaster- “Proof of continuous human”
I am continuous human. I spend my day on the computer and get nowhere in life or my career, continuously. Great vocals!
Shugo Tokumaru- “Tracking Elevator”
Shugo’s latest video from his new album. The abstract animation coincides nicely with the folky instrumentation. European fans would be happy to know Port Entropy will be released there in the fall.
Puffyshoes- “Cherry Coke”
We are Puffyshoes! At least they’re not Buttershoes (“every thing is hot but her shoes”–damn you Footlocker).
AKIHIRO NAMBA- “Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride”
Japan is obsessed with Lilo & Stitch for some reason so some genius got a bunch of punk rockers to cover songs from the movie. For serious.
knotlamp- “Into the Sky”
Watch a fat girl eat a salad while a skinny chick eats Krispy Kremes and spaghetti bolognese and not feel bad about it for days and days and days.
Matter- “Fight Against”
Matter will be punking it out on a background of parchment paper until they find somewhere to go, somewhere to live.
Back Lift- “The Memory Makes Me Smile”
The singer’s wearing a Hi-Standard t-shirt. I was starting to think Japanese bands don’t listen to Japanese bands.
