J-Rock Fridays Vol. 73

June 15, 2012

Here we go!

NILE LONG- “See Your Eyes”

It was a sad day when The Brixton Academy quietly announced their disbandment earlier this year. Thankfully, it didn’t last long as most of the members announced they’d be back in Nile Long. “See Your Eyes” continues where TBA’s last EP L.O.T. left off, with an infectious melody and dance grooves.

birds melt sky- “Oneday, Someday”

The birds are back with another face melting electronic rock single. I like this more than sakanaction’s latest.

aoki laska- “mite mite”

The last time we heard from aoki laska she was crying over getting dumped, but now she’s chopping vegetables to this catchy electronic beat. Expect more slower singer-songwriter type stuff on her debut, though.

HINTO- “Tokimeki Dry”

Sparta Locals was big in the indies when I first started getting into J-indie. HINTO is the band a couple dudes from Sparta Locals started after that band broke up. Their first album is coming out soon and if it’s as killer as this choreography we’re going to have a winner.

THE CHERRY COKE$- ” Kiss in the Green ~Drunken Lovers Night~”

Another drunken lullaby from everyone’s favorite Irish-punk imitating Japanese band. Good to see they haven’t lost their swagger after signing to a major, although those visual-kei hairdos are worrisome.

Say My Name.- “New Dawn”

Why is everyone adding a period to their band names lately? Starting to get annoying.

Sambomaster- あなたのことしか考えられない

Slow, boring ballad isn’t the most convincing lead single for an album titled Rock’n Roll Is Not Dead. Where is the fiery passion I fell in love with when they did that Naruto song?

The Nampa Boys- “Plunge”

Tumblr award of the week goes to punk rockers The Nampa Boys. I don’t know why they’re rocking an American flag but should know they hung it up backwards. Also, best band photo ever.

coldrain- “No Escape”

I always confuse these guys with fade, probably because they’re both screamo bands fronted by white dudes who did anime themes. Watch Deadman Wonderland on Toonami!

Secret 7 Line- “It’s All Right”

Holy shitz those shirts would fit perfectly on Japanese Fashion Inferno. Oddly enough, they spelled “all right” correctly.

0.8 Byo no Shogeki- “No Wave≒斜陽”

Since Evol Records decided to privatize the “Lasagna” video I posted last week, I guess I’ll just have to double up on Byo videos. “No Wave” is nowhere near as interesting as that previous single but still crazier than most J-Rock on the market.

uminecosounds- “Saru To Banana”

I guess I’ll double dip on umineocosounds too, because…puppets! Cute wokka wokka.

UMBERBROWN- “Destination”

You know what they say about broken mirrors? Well, in this case, the young gets possessed by the demon of dance. Hilarious Exorcist pranks abound.
