J-Rock Fridays Vol. 91
February 22, 2013Hello all! I had a wisdom tooth pulled last Friday and am still on a lot of pain killers so forgive me if I’m more incoherent than usual. I was thinking it’s time to start doing individual video posts. Let me know what you think!
Elen Never Sleeps- “Shine On Me”
“If you love me, don’t fall asleep.” My favorite track off Elen’s new EP, “Shine On Me” again borrows footage from some old black and white film. A reflective video with plenty of dancing, kissing and bare breasts.
The fin.- “Glowing Red on the Shore”
The fin. takes us on a grainy chillout session at the beach as the sun’s going down. A very literal interpretation of the song title but a great second track from the band. Looking forward to more from these guys.
Hotel Mexico- “A.I. in Dreams”
Two videos in one month, Hotel Mexico is really making up for lost time! There has been a live studio version of this song kicking around since last year but this Richard Law directed video really cranks up the creepy.
Man With A Mission- “Take What U Want”
If you’re into extreme sports and snowboarding, Man With A Mission is giving u what u want. It was only a matter of time before the wolfpack turned to bro rock.
Back Drop Bomb- “The Beginning and The End feat. AKLO”
This is awful, Back Drop Bomb. Rap and dubstep should never go together.
Keytalk- “Fiction Escape”
Keytalk utilizes the moving picture frames technique for their new PV. Will they remain trapped in a photo?
Neverlost- “Key to the Dreams”
Man why does every other hardcore band in Japan have to have a white singer? Oh well, the screams are all right and he does kind of have a visual kei look going on.
Analogfish- “Goodbye Girlfriend”
Analogfish is saying sayonara to their girlfriend and it’s a silent walk in the middle of the night affair. It’s a good time for thinking and stuff!
Balzac- “The Bleeding Black”
I just picked up this awesome Balzac blood splattered record last week and they have a new single out already! Prepare for another hell raising album from this horror punk band.
99RadioService- “Star”
99RadioService gives a bus ride performance while a ballerina prances about in front of a train. Who will rise to stardom first?
Kuso Iinkai- 波動砲ガールフレンド
Kuso Iinkai made an RPG style PV full of esoteric writing. Beware the mighty kamehameha!
Gesu no Kiwami Otome- “Black Parade”
Machine guns and blood. Not the most sensitive video but it’s been a while since we’ve heard a good piano driven rock band.
Lyu:Lyu- “Kaiten”
I don’t know if this surgeon is creating a robot or extracting an alien baby but all this medical equipment is making me queasy!
