J-Rock Fridays Vol. 54

September 16, 2011

There’s a lot to go through this week so let’s! get! it! started!

THE Dakishimeruzu- “I wanna be your boyfriend”

THE Dakishimeruzu is not afraid to thrash around in the mud. Let’s just get dirty and have fun. Their second album was released last November, so this extra long PV is a good reminder to check it out.

Miila and the Geeks- “Want”

How much food can Moe’s friends stuff in her mouth? Probably not a good idea to wear a blindfold, they are all guys…

“Want” has been a personal favorite since 6 Songs was released. Now you can hear it on their debut album New Age, which will go down as one of this year’s best.

pocketlife- “Maybe”

What happened to that angry pocketlife on “Empty”? “Maybe” is a perfectly chill song. Perfect for walking on the beach to. Not that I have a beach to walk on.

Czecho No Republic- “Rainbow”

Czecho No Republic has fun at the dinner table with Easter eggs and toy keyboards. Another catchy pop single from the band’s debut album Maminka.

BACK-ON- “Connectus and selfish”

One of the cool things about Linkin Park back in the day was their ability to pump up metal hits without the use of profanity. Then they released the pile of dung that is Minutes to Midnight. “Connectus and selfish” is Back-On’s Minutes to Midnight. I don’t know what inspired Teeda’s f-bomb rampage, but it was completely unnecessary. Respect: lowered.

BIGMAMA counts down from 8. But if you’re not into long division just sit back and enjoy more violin rock from the band.

GOLIATH- “blackout”

Attack of the super groups! Would you be surprised if I told you Art-School was involved in this? Didn’t think so! GOLIATH also has members of Fox Loco Phantom and Response and has this cool double bass thing going on. “Blackout” is mostly black but has some non-erotic belly dancing.

Backdrop Cinderella- 少年はウンザウンザを踊る

Backdrop Cinderella is nuts! From the grotesque doodles in this PV to their crazed Irish punk swagger. Shinsei Kamattechan watch your back.

Mugwumps- “Go Gaga Go”

“The magic bus is waiting but I pass by the bus stop.” Really catchy stuff from the coffee shop.

Nudge’em all- “Magic”

Do you believe in magic? Nudge’em all has a neat 60s vibe that kind of reminds me of Asparagus (who leaves them a nice comment over at Magic’s YouTube page).

Heavenstamp x tomato- “Waterfall”

Classy. This would appear to be tomato’s remix of “Waterfall.” I guess we’ll see when the Waterfall EP comes out next month.

Lonesome Dove Woodrows- 憧れのトランジスタガール

Lonesome Dove Woodrows are back by popular demand. Croon over “just a girl” with them.

Kido Yoji- “Call A Romance”

Time to get funky with Kido Yoji. I don’t know if this is an official PV, but now I know what to dress up as for Halloween.

The Beauty- “Fifth Regret”

It has come to my attention that I have never featured any of the Cuz Me Pain crew on this blog. Let’s correct that wrong with The Beauty’s new video for “Fifth Regret.” A song so haunting you want to jump into those waves.

Pick one. Or three.
